The Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Prof. Michael U. Adikwu, has urged the 3900 newly matriculated students to seize the opportunity provided by the academic environment to prepare themselves for the task of nation building.
Prof. Adikwu, who said this during the matriculation ceremony, noted that Nigeria is passing through some hard times, which included the incidents of youth unemployment and therefore urged students to rise to the challenge by being creative from day one in the university.
He called for self-discipline, which was necessary for serious academic pursuit, and advised students to shun vices such as cultism, examination malpractices, truancy, and extremism in whatever guise.
The vice chancellor said that the entire education system in the country was facing serious challenges, which can only be overcome if all stakeholders commit themselves to discharging their roles in the best way they can.
