tPROF. SHUAIBU OBA ABDULRAHEEM was born on the 22nd of October 1947 in Ilorin, Kwara State of Nigeria. He attended Ahmadu Bello University and graduated with B.A. (Hons) degree in English in 1974. He proceeded to the United Kingdom and graduated from the University of Sheffield and the University of Kent at Canterbury in 1977 and 1982 with Masters Degree (M.A.) English and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) English respectively.Prof. Shuaibu has written several scholarly publications in local and international journals,as well as books. “Essay on Northern Nigerian Literature” is one among many. He is a member and Chairman of several Professional and Academic organisations.His academic honours and distinctions include:

* British Council Academic Visitorship to the Universities of Kent & Sheffield 1986
* British Council Academic Visitorship to the Universities of London & Leeds 1989.

He has held senior academic positions in the Bayero University Kano as a Senior Lecturer in English, 1984. He later became the Dean, Post Graduate School from 1991-95. He was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of the university of Ilorin from 1997-2002. Some of his previous appointments include Chairman of Governing Council, Kwara State Polytechnic and Member of the Governing Board of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, GCFR approved the appointment of Professor Shuaibu Oba AbdulRaheem as the Executive Chairman of Federal Character Commission following Senate confirmation in April, 2008. He is happily married and blessed with children. His hobbies include playing Tennis and caring for Pets.
