Post Engineering Graduates to Engineering Organisations – NSE
The Abuja branch of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has advocated for the posting of engineering graduates under the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to engineering-based organisations for their primary assignment.
Dr Ezekiel Coker, the Chairman of the branch, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Monday.
He said the posting of engineering graduates to schools in rural communities during the one year National Service was not in the interest of the corps members.
“In terms of technological development, you cannot train an engineer and you send him to a rural area to become a teacher.
“The ability of such engineer is not fully being utilised because what he has learnt in the university is not being put to practice.
“We have been going to the NYSC camp, on yearly basis, to sensitise young engineers and NYSC officials on the need to post engineering graduates to relevant organisations,” he said.
According to him, the engineers have been trained in the various field of engineering and so they will be made useful if posted to engineering-based organisations to acquire practical knowledge during the service year.
Coker said the monthly meeting of the branch was aimed at reappraising the activities of members within the month and welcoming new comers to witness the activities of senior colleagues. (NAN)
