President Muhammadu Buhari has approved N208billion for the upgrade of Nigerian universities. This was disclosed by the President’s Personal Assistant on New Media, Ahmad Bashir, via his Twitter handle.
According to Ahmad Bashir who took to Twitter around 4 PM on 15 Jun 2019, where he disclosed that the President approves N208 Billion to upgrade Nigerian Universities’ infrastructure. He also concluded his tweet by saying this is indeed a great achievement for the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

It was said that the approved N208 billion is part of the 2019 intervention through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund which aims at advanced infrastructural development of public universities in Nigeria.
President Muhammadu Buhari disclosed his plan to empower the education development in Nigerian Universities during the 23rd convocation of the University of Abuja on the 15th June 2019.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Mr. Sonny Echono, Buhari said his administration would continue to provide funding that would address some of the challenges in the nation’s public institutions.

“There is no doubt that Nigeria will be a global player in the emerging knowledge economy. What is required is to ensure the quality of our human capital and also maintain the desirable balance for sustainable national socio-economic growth and development,” the president said.
He also noted that for the country’s education system to favor it, the curriculum must focus on the development of entrepreneurial skills of the individuals and encourage research and innovations.
